And in the evening, nothing beats gathering around the glowing wood burner to warm your toes. Sleeping four people over two bedrooms, this smart country cottage is ideal if you want to enjoy a refreshing slice of rural life. After a day hiking or biking your way through the national park, return to your rural retreat and head to the country-style kitchen to cook dinner. Host a meal to remember at the dining table in the living room/diner, which offers wonderful views over the garden. After dinner, enjoy a glass of something cool and crisp out in the garden, or make your way to the living area, slip onto the sofa and watch your favourite TV shows in front of the wood burner. With its exposed beams and impressive feature fireplace, this is a truly lovely room to relax in. At the end of the day, make your way upstairs and you’ll find two country-style bedrooms. The village of Bonsall is right on the 46-mile Limestone Way. If you’re not game for the full 46 miles, there’s a wonderful 3.5-mile circular walk between Bonsall, Matlock Bath and Cromford. Alternatively, head to Carsington Water (7.5 miles) and try your hand at windsurfing or powerboating. In the evening, there are a couple of lovely village pubs in Bonsall to check out.
