This former fishing village boasts lovely Edwardian architecture, a historic promenade and a traditional seaside atmosphere, with amusement arcades, quirky shops, fish and chips and ice-cream parlours. Try some water sports, watch the sea birds, go fossil hunting or hike the long-distance Cleveland Way, which runs through the North York Moors and along the coast. If you feel like a day further afield, Scarborough and Bridlington are both only 9.5 miles away.
