A visit to Carisbrooke Castle (3 miles) is a great bet for history lovers, while golfers will make a beeline for the scenic course just south of Newport. For a day out by the sea, head to Ryde (5 miles) or Sandown (7.5 miles) where you’ll find long sandy beaches for swimming, picnicking and partaking in water sports like kayaking and kite surfing.
