There’s a brilliant circular 4-mile walk that starts near the local pub in Hatherleigh (1 mile) and takes you on the Tarka Trail with views of Hatherleigh Moor, Dartmoor, and Hatherleigh Monument. If you’d prefer a garden, RHS Rosemoor (14 miles) is worth a wander around beautiful roses and shrubs; Clovelly (24.5 miles) is worth the longer drive for its court gardens but also the harbour, cobbled streets and shops. Witness the deepest natural gorge in the south west at Lydford Gorge (17 miles) with its 30-metre waterfall and wonderful wildlife.
